Recently, a friend from high school shared a video of a real-life "Mario Kart" experience in New Zealand. During its heyday, we played the Nintendo 64 console game fairly competitively. I made the obvious comment of what was missing from this video was the actual game music. So naturally, I set out to recreate it. For a taste of 90's gaming nostalgia, certain types of instruments would be called upon. Among them, classic chip emulators provided bass synth, drums, and percussion while the venerable Wavestation's brass and keys patches are undeniably authentic for the time period. And guess what? Mario Kart hysteria caught on and I took another friend's request to reproduce one of his favorite tracks from the game - a little ditty in 11/8. As if I didn't spend enough time playing the game. Below are the reproduced tracks and the "new" video with the music added: "3 Raceways - Studio ROM" (Kenta Nagata, Soyo Oka © 1997) "Results Theme - Studio ROM" (Kenta Nagata, Soyo Oka © 1997)
